CHAPTER 16. SOUTH WEST FRANCE CONT.

We next come back to SW France the third of June ‘89, after 4 weeks in Italy and several days in SE France, including Briançon, Lyon, Dieulefite, and Stes. Maries. From Stes. Maries we drive to Montpellier, and then south on the freeway to Narbonne and on a tertiary road southwest to Couise and finally Quillan.

This time we stay at the Cartier Hotel, and after looking at most of their rooms pick the largest and most expensive; since it has a drinks refrigerator we pick up milk to have cereal for breakfast.

We sleep late and have a restful day. In the evening we go to the Elefthériou home for champagne and an excellent supper. The next day we take it easy some more, collect mail at poste restante, watch tennis on TV, and in the evening host the Elefthérious at our hotel restaurant. Our fourth day in Quillan we rest some more, Betty gets her hair cut, and we have cheese and chocolate mousse with Manette (Irene) at the Elefthériou home early in the evening.

Leaving Quillan we go north to Albi, staying again at the Chiffre Hotel. We arrive early enough to spend a couple of hours at the Toulouse-Lautrec museum which has much of his art on display. The next morning we visit the beautiful and well worth seeing Albi Cathedral. Both of these Betty had missed in ‘85 because of her broken kneecap.

We go on to Souillac and stay once more at the Belle Vue Hotel. On our way north from there we are able to see Lascaux ll, again postponed from ‘85 because of Betty’s kneecap. The reproductions of the caves and ancient drawings are very interesting and authentic looking to our non expert eyes.

Glenn has been fighting a chest congestion ever since the cold weather in Rome, and it won’t go away. We see another IAMAT doctor in Limoges, and continue toward Paris where we skip a planned stay, and change our flight reservations to go home early.

Our trips in 1994 and 2000 thru SW France are covered briefly at the end of #9 and on page 24, this chapter.
