From Nerja we drive up a narrow winding road to Granada and our room in the San Francisco Parador on the grounds of the Alhambra. The room is smaller than most paradors, perhaps because it had previously been a monastery.
We have a three nights stay in the Parador, and we need all that time. The buildings and the gardens of the Alhambra are beautiful and in excellent condition.
The crowds at the Alhambra are big and taking photographs without a lot of people in them takes time and patience. The fountains are on only for a short time, so we are fortunate to see them playing. The Alhambra is indeed a sight “worth a journey”, as rated by Michelin!
We go on from Granada via Valencia, Barcelona, Mallorca, Ibeza, Zaragosa, Pamplona, San Sebastian, Fuenterrabia, Altamira, Burgos, and Salamanca before entering Portugal. But that can be in Spain, Part II (#19).
