CHAPTER 11. FRANCE-PICARDY TO ALSACE CONT.

Leaving Nancy, we drive along the Moselle River and Canal to Epinal. It is a very pretty town with flower boxes on bridges and road hand rails. There are U.S. flags flying for a Franco-American trade fair. On thru tall timbered pretty mountains to St. Die where we have an excellent lunch at the Michelin one star Restaurant Le Tetras. We have escargot in flakey pastry, trout meuniere almondine, dessert, and extra cookies and candied strawberries and grapes. Umm! On to Urmatt where we stop at the Poste Hotel in a nice large room with a table, two chairs, couch and easy chair, balcony, shower, and W.C. We stay two nights so we can see the northern part of the wine road of Alsace.

With weather cool, cloudy, and some rain, we drive from Urmatt up thru pretty forest and mountains via Nidick and Wangenburg, then down to Marlenheim and follow the Alsace wine route to Molsheim. We return to Urmatt for a good lunch at the hotel and a rest. Later we go back to the wine route and drive to Rosheim, Boersch, Ottrott, St. Nabor, & Barr, then back thru Obernai to Urmatt. All are very pretty villages, with entrance towers, half timbered houses, window flower boxes, and some wells made into planters.
