CHAPTER 9. NORMANDY & BRITTANY CONT.

After a visit to the St. Mere Eglise Museum of the US airborne landing we drive thru rain to Dol de Bretagne and the Logis Bresche Arthur where we stay three nights while seeing the Brittany north coast.

We drive to St. Malo via the beautiful col and leek crop covered peninsula to see Pointe du Grouin where the sea is deep blue and waves pound against the cliffs. At St. Malo we get directions to a laverie to wash our clothes. A very helpful young man tells us in French and non verbal language how to operate the machines. He also walks us a block away to show us a market; it is small but has wine, salami, camembert cheese, and bread - all we need for a hood-top lunch while our clothes are cleaned and dried. Afterwards we go on and walk the ramparts around the old walled city. There are scenic views of boats, water, islands, and more. After a brief rest and a demi cafe in a bar, we buy the Herald Tribune, watch a freighter being loaded, then drive back to our Dol hotel.
