We are up early again and after breakfast taxi to the bus station and take an 8 am bus for Uxmal. Our luggage is in a rooftop rack and we watch most of the way to see that it doesn’t fall off. Again the hotel is named the Hacienda; it is a beautiful new building with exterior corridors and pleasant gardens. The rooms are large and have patterned tile floors. We walk to the ruins for a couple of hours before lunch; the buildings are very interesting with complex designs in the facades. Back at the hotel we have a good fish lunch, walk in the lush gardens, rest, and wash clothes. After supper we walk to the ruins for the sound and light show which is well done - with shutters framed to the shapes of the designs. It is clear and the stars are very bright on an evening that is cool even in a sweater and jacket.
After breakfast we wait for the 1st class bus to Kabah, and go with a good guide on a tour of the ruins. There are some good bargains at the market and we buy an embroidered blouse and dress. After an hour it’s back to the Hacienda for a beer, rest, and lunch. We walk and rest some more before returning to the Uxmal ruins in the middle of the afternoon.
It’s a lazy morning for us at the Uxmal Hacienda as we wait for the bus to pick us up about noon for the bouncy trip back to Merida. There we check into the Caribe Hotel and after lunch go out shopping. We buy several things, including a panama hat and a guayabara shirt for Glenn.
Today we have a nice short flight over pretty light blue shorelines to the island of Cozumel, where we plan to rest some from the rigors of our month long trip. We taxi to the Playa Azul Hotel and have a long wait before our room is vacated and cleaned. We spend three nights there enjoying the white sand beach and the very clear warm water where boats seem to be floating in the air, and the glass bottom boat gives views of many and beautiful fish. It is a good conclusion to our very interesting Central America and Yucatan travel.
